Kung Fu poster by BIll Wood.

Front/back cover wraparound preview

2023 was a whirlwind year for art projects. In addition to establishing new benchmarks for music, movie and sports illustration work, I’ve also been busy with my sixth self-published art book, Black Belt Theater. It's my first book project in over three years and I'm excited to finally share the details with you.

If you’ve read my kung fu movie blogs, you’ll know that I’m a massive fan of the genre (and if you haven’t read them, I’ll include links below). I used to watch these films on Saturday afternoon TV way back when, and revisiting them as an adult has been a load of fun in general – even the sub-par ones can be entertaining! Many of these movies inspired me to create poster art, over the past several years I’ve accumulated enough material that the time seems right for a book release. So here it is.

This 6” x 9”, 64-page art book is in a "mini-magazine" format and features dozens of original full-color illustrations inspired by vintage martial arts flicks from the ‘70s and ‘80s. From the all-time classic Enter the Dragon to b-movie schlock such as Kung Fu from Beyond the Grave, it’s all here in glorious four-color process! Also included is a foreword, a recommended movie list and a glossary of key components. Essentially, I’m sharing my journey through the world of kung fu cinema in both a visual and literal sense.

Each printed copy of Black Belt Theater will be signed and numbered, and the run is 200 copies. Supply is extremely limited with no reprints… once they’re gone they’re gone! Price is $25US with free shipping and I accept both PayPal and Venmo for direct purchases. The physical editions are currently available on Etsy and eBay, digital versions of the book will be included free upon request. Please feel free to e-mail me for additional information.

Thank you for reading and keep on Kung Fu Fighting!
